Q. What data points are being pulled into the AI Obituary Builder?

A. Here are all the data points that are pulled into the obituary builder:

  • Up to 52 points from your Death Certificate fields (if they are filled out and enabled)

  • All Event Information

  • All Helper Information

  • Additional Information provided in the Obituary Task

Q. Can I customize the welcome message in the AI Obituary Builder pop-up?

A. No. This is a default template our product team curated for all families.

Q. Who can work on the obituary task?

A. Funeral home staff with permission to view cases, Admin family helpers, and Guest family helpers assigned to this task.

Q. How do I publish my newly created obituary to my Gather-built website?

A. Please ensure the obituary task is completed first, and then you can publish the case from the Globe icon in the top-left corner of the case page by flipping the toggle to go live. You can also accomplish this from the visual case card on the dashboard, from the three-dot settings menu.

Q. Can I publish the newly created obituary to my website if Gather does not host it?

A. No. You must have a Gather website to host obituaries from the Case Management platform of the app. However, as a workaround, you can copy and paste the Remember page URL from Gather and share it on your 3rd party website.

Q. Why can't I update the decedent's information directly in the obituary writing window?

A. For best practice, we always recommend that the Death Certificate task is your main source of truth for all the other tasks that data populates into, including the new AI Obituary Builder.

Q. Do I have to fill out all the vital information for the AI Obituary Builder to generate?

A. No, but striving to 100% completion of the Death Certificate task is highly recommended to collect as much information as possible.

Q. Can you configure what fields are populated in the Information Box?

A. No, this cannot be configured.

Q. Can I add a survivor or family member to the task if they haven't been added as a family member on the case yet?

A. Yes, you may do this directly from the obituary task.

Q. Where does the AI Obituary Builder pull the information for the living and deceased family members?

A. The information is being pulled from the invited helpers on the case, the Parents and Informat categories of the Death Certificate task, the payers, and any other non-invited helpers.

Q. If you add a family member from the obituary task directly, are they also automatically created as a helper on the case?

A. You'll have the option to do both! Once you invite the family member, the next page of the window will ask if you would like to invite them as a helper on the case. You can do this or skip that option.

Q. Can I turn some prompt fields off in the AI Obituary Builder if I don't need to use them?

A. No, but you can bypass any fields you don't wish to fill out and leave them blank. Remember, the more unique and personal info provided, the more genuine and realistic the obituary will be.

Q. What format do I need to write my responses in with these prompts? (i.e., bullet points, sentences, etc.)

A. Any format will work!

Q. Do I have to complete the fields in a specific order for the obituary to populate the answers in that order?

A. The order they are answered will not affect the generated obituary; however, you can use the Configure Settings to specify the order of information being entered.

Q. Does Grammarly integrate with Gather? Will Gather indicate that something is misspelled or using incorrect grammar?

A. Gather will use your existing browser tools or extensions, such as Grammarly, to help with spelling and grammar.

Q. If I add a new event directly from the obituary task, does it automatically add it to the case page?

A. As the funeral home staff, you are the only user able to create events from the obituary task and apply them to the case page. Family helpers can only view the events you created and have the option to include or exclude them from the obituary.

Q. Can the Obituary Writer have more than one writing style selected?

A. No, only one style can be selected as an option.

Q. Can you select more than four words to describe the decedent?

A. No. It may be tough to narrow the description options to only four, and you can always use the other prompts to make it as unique and personal as possible.

Q. Can I switch the point of view that the obituary is written in?

A. Yes! You can write the obituary in 3rd person, from a perspective of an invited family helper or the point of view of the decedent themselves.

Q. How do quotes or verses get generated in the obituary?

A. If the decedent has selected a religious view, we will automatically add verses that relate to that religious view. If not, we will add the most frequently used quotes on obituaries that seem suitable and relevant to the other information provided.

Q. How long can I expect it to take for the obituary to generate?

A. It will typically take two to three minutes.

Q. How do I complete and lock the obituary when it's completed?

A. Right below the obituary text box, you will see a button allowing you to lock and complete the obituary all in one click!

Q. What does it mean to "lock" an obituary?

A. This is a best practice to ensure that once the obituary is finalized and approved, that it is locked and disabled from family helpers to go back and make any further changes and edits to it. Funeral home staff are the only users with permission to lock and unlock this task.

Q. Can I add multiple links to a loved one's obituary?

A. Yes! You can add as many links as you would like.

Q. Can you reorder links?

A. No. The links are listed in the order they were added.

Q. Can you automatically email the obituary or death notice to the newspaper after you enter their information in the task?

A. No. This information is purely for tracking and collaborating with the family and their requests, and you will still need to contact the newspapers for the next steps.

Q. Is there a way for the added newspaper information to be visible on the case page?

A. Yes! This is now an additional note under the Obituary task on the case page, and it's only visible to Family Helpers.

Q. How many newspapers can you specify in the obituary task?

A. You may add up to four different newspapers.

Q. Can I generate an obituary if all fields are blank and only the name is specified?

A. Yes, however, we highly encourage adding more personalization and information to the task so the obituary is more robust.

Q. Can I standardize or create additional settings for the AI Obituary Builder?

A. Yes. You can do so under My Funeral Home settings and the "Configure AI Obituary Builder" section.

Q. What other prompts should I consider adding in the AI Obituary Builder Settings section?

A. We suggest trying out everything! Our system does an excellent job picking it up. Here are some examples you may try:

  • Change all events to Pacific Time

  • The decedent was a pet cat, and all the survivors are the cat's owners

  • Write the obituary in Spanish

  • Keep the obituary at less than 1000 characters

  • And more!

Q. If I add unique settings in the obituary task on a specific case, will those settings update for all future obituaries we generate?

A. No. Only the default settings affect your account globally. The global settings can then be overwritten under each case.

Q. Once I generate one obituary on a case, can I generate more than one in the same task for the same decedent and look at them side-by-side?

A. No. You can always generate one at a time and copy and paste them into a separate document.

Q. If I edit an answer in one field in the obituary writing tool, will it change the rest of the already generated obituary?

A. No. If you change any of the vitals or other prompts after an obituary has been generated, you will be forced to generate it again. We'd suggest you make small edits on the right-hand side unless you'd like to start over from scratch.

Q. Will the obituary builder write false and incorrect information that I do not provide?

A. No. The obituary builder will only use the information provided in all the vitals and prompts to generate the write-up.
