What's New
Improved How Obituary Pages Are Rendered to Help Them Rank Better on Google
We're improving the way we render obituary pages to try to get them ranking better on Google.
Search engines now should have an easier time reading the whole obituary, including the obituary text, birth and death dates, town, public services and funeral home, so your obituaries have a better chance of showing up when someone searches the person's name.
Every obituary page title now includes a town, using the funeral home's city when the case doesn't have one.
The obituary text, dates, town and services are now part of the page before it finishes loading, which is the version search engines read. Once it's loaded, the page looks the same as before.
Private pages and cases that don't have an obituary yet are unchanged.
Improved Photo Moderation to Cover Unreviewed Photos and Stop Flagging Photos with Text
Any photo that couldn't be scanned now shows up for review behind the click-to-reveal cover, so staff never see it uncovered by surprise.
Photos with ordinary text in them, like t-shirts, hats, signs and banners, are no longer all sent for review. They publish on their own when the text is harmless and the image passes the scan.
Photos from invited family members are now scanned like any other visitor's photos. Photos uploaded by staff still skip review.
Added WebP Image Uploads in Case Files
WebP images (a common format for images saved from the web) can now be uploaded in Case Files. Before, they were turned away without any message.
WebP files can be viewed, downloaded and renamed like any other file.
Added Explanations to Disabled Buttons on Scheduled Reports
When "Send Report Now" or "Save Recurring Send" is grayed out on a scheduled report, hovering over it now explains why, for example "Choose at least one recipient" or "Enter valid email addresses".

Added Refresh and Product Editing to the Product Naming Wizard
A new refresh button reloads the product lists without leaving the wizard. You stay on the same step, and names you've already typed are kept.
If a product you were renaming no longer needs a new name, the wizard clears it and lets you know.
A pencil on every row opens that product's full edit screen without leaving the wizard, and your changes show up in the list as soon as you save.
"These are the same product" now finds the right products and suggests a simpler name.
When two products disagree, the wizard now only asks whether the product is taxable.
The wizard always starts at the first step when you reopen it.
Resolved a Bug Preventing Certain Statement Revisions from Being Frozen
A revision where the changes before tax added up to exactly $0.00 and a taxable item was removed couldn't be frozen. It showed an error every time.
These revisions now freeze, and QuickBooks gets the correct credit.
Resolved a Bug Preventing a Statement from Being Frozen When It Was Frozen Again from Another Tab
Freezing a statement from an older browser tab could try to create a second copy of a document that was already in QuickBooks. Some QuickBooks companies reject that, and the statement couldn't be frozen.
Gather now reuses the document that's already in QuickBooks instead of making a duplicate.
Resolved a Bug Causing Per-Mile and Quantity Items to Sync to QuickBooks a Few Cents Off
Line amounts, totals and tax in QuickBooks now match Gather exactly.
Bug Fixes
Resolved a Bug Preventing Signers from Filling In Blank Death Certificate Fields
When a case had blank death certificate details, such as Date of Death, Informant Name or Spouse Name, the form treated them as already answered and gave the signer nowhere to type.
Blank fields now stay blank, so signers get a box to fill them in.
Fields Gather already knows still fill in automatically.
Resolved a Bug Causing Photo Album Downloads to Fail or Get Stuck
One cropped portrait photo from a phone could make a whole album download fail. Now, if one photo can't be processed, the rest of the album still downloads.
Album downloads no longer get stuck loading when some photos are still waiting for approval. Albums download the approved photos and can be tried again if a download fails.
Resolved a Bug Causing Group Admins to Be Locked Out of Homes in Their Group
Group admins could get an error on pages like Team and Location at a funeral home that had been moved into their group.
Group admins are now added automatically to every funeral home in their group, including homes that are moved in or newly created.
To take a group admin off a single home, remove their group admin access first.
Resolved a Bug Preventing the DD-214 Task from Opening the File Picker
The DD-214 task now opens the file picker again so the document can be uploaded.
Resolved a Bug Causing Website Form Submissions to Be Lost
If Gather couldn't read the submitter's details from a website form, the whole submission was dropped and the funeral home never heard about it.
The submission is now saved and the funeral home is still notified. If the details couldn't be read, the submitter's name, email and phone may be blank.
Resolved a Bug Causing Pre-Need Web Form Cases to Be Named "Unknown Unknown"
Some pre-need submissions made for a friend or relative created a case named "Unknown Unknown", and searching the dashboard for the person's name didn't find it.
The submitter's name could also show the person the plan was for instead of the person who filled out the form.
Cases are now named from the form's first and last name. On forms that ask for both names, the submitter's name now comes from the contact name.
Resolved a Bug Causing Deleted or Paused Report Schedules to Keep Sending
Report schedules that were deleted or paused could keep running and emailing recipients.
Deleted and paused schedules now stop sending. "Send Now" still works on a paused schedule.
Resolved a Bug Causing Scanned Military Service Dates and Times of Death to Be Lost
Military service dates scanned in formats like "1968" or MM-DD-YYYY showed blank on the death certificate and were erased when it was saved. Dates that can't be read as a full date now go into the case notes, so nothing is lost.
Times of death like "7:03 p.m." or "7pm" stopped the whole scan from being applied. They're now read correctly.
If a time still can't be read, the rest of the scan is applied and the time is saved in the case notes.
Resolved a Bug Causing the Memorial Book Spine to Print in the Wrong Font
The name on the spine of printed memorial books now uses the same cursive font as the front and back covers.
