“So what do we actually owe?” deserves a one-page answer, not a stack of printouts to explain. With Customizable Receipts, you print exactly what each family, payer and insurance company needs, and you see it before it prints.
Important Note: You can also customize your statement formatting in Gather! You can learn more by reading our quick guide on statement formatting.

What are Customizable Receipts?
Pick a Quick Statement, the full Statement or a Payment Receipt and set it up your way. The live preview changes as you go, so what you see is exactly what prints.
Made for moments like these:
👦 Michael offered to cover the memorial video
💳 Linda just paid by card at the arrangement and wants a receipt
🏦 Prairie Star Life needs an invoice for the claim
✉️ Michael lives in Spokane, so it has to go by mail
💵 “What do we owe once the insurance pays?”
📜 Four more death certificates, ordered after the Statement was signed

Important Note: Print Receipt is a staff-only tool. Family members never see Print Receipt, Print Quick Statement, or any of this setup. They keep the Payer Invoice download and receipt print they have today.
Where Do I Find 'Print Receipt'?
Open a case’s Payments page and scroll to the foot of its charges and payments. Print Receipt sits under Record a Charge and the balances, right where Statement Report used to be.
On a phone or small tablet, it opens in full screen with the options at the top. Gather works on every device, after all!
🔀 Looking for something that moved?
Statement Report is now Print Receipt, same spot.
Print this Receipt (in View Receipt) opens Print Receipt.
View Payer Invoice opens a preview, not a download: How Do I Bill an Insurance Company (or Any Payer) with View Payer Invoice?
Record a Charge sits at the foot of the list (Gather Pay: Getting Started).

Which Receipt Should I Print?
Pick one of the three under Select Your Receipt Type, and the options and preview will follow.
1) Quick Statement: just the charges and payments you tick
Combined prints the Statement as one line. Broken Out lets you tick just the lines you want.
Tick the payments to list.
Include expected payments, like insurance that’s on its way.
Show the amount due adds Total − Payments = Outstanding at the top, from just what you ticked.
Actual Balance Owed always closes the page, and Expected Balance Owed joins it when you include expected payments.
2) Statement: the full Statement, your way
Set Outside Charges, Actual Payments, and Expected Payments to Not Shown, Total, or Itemized.
Untick an itemized line to leave it off. The totals add up only what prints, and an amber note says what’s left out.
Pick Visual Layout or Compact Layout. Equal columns work in Compact.
End on Balance Owed and Balance Owed After Expected Payments.
None of this changes the official Statement; for that, see Showing Families Exactly What's Owed with Customizable Statements. Curious what each total includes? See Understanding Your Statement's Totals and How They Tie Out.
3) Payment Receipts: one payment, ready to hand over or mail
One payment you’ve received, with its amount, method and date. On the Envelope header, it’s addressed to whoever paid. Choose the payment under Select Payment.
Just took a check? Here’s how to record it: Gather Pay: Check.
Two Key Shortcuts That Do The Setup For You
Already looking at the charge or payment? Start right there!
1) Print Quick Statement from a charge’s menu
Open the three-dot (⋮) menu on a charge you added with Record a Charge and choose Print Quick Statement. It opens on just that charge, and the signed Statement stays exactly as it was.
Helpful Tip: Print Quick Statement appears only on charges added with Record a Charge, not on the Statement’s own lines or a convenience fee. For a line on the signed Statement, use Print Receipt → Quick Statement → Broken Out.
Statement already frozen? How to Finish and Archive a Completed Case in Gather shows how to add a charge outside it.
2) Print this Receipt from 'View Receipt'
Click View Receipt on a received payment (in its ⋮ menu or on the payer’s card), then Print this Receipt. It opens on that payment, set up the way you last printed a Payment Receipt.
Helpful Tip: Paid by an insurer? It opens on Simple instead of Envelope. Pick Envelope to address it to them by name.
Make it Yours: Headers and Legal Language
Pick one of four headers under Customize Your Header:
Statement: your official Statement header.
Simple: a short centered block with just the details you pick.
Envelope: made for a #9 double-window envelope. Print, fold, mail.
Letterhead: the top 2.5 inches left blank for your pre-printed paper.
Quick Statements start on Simple, Statements on Statement, and Payment Receipts on Envelope. Full tour: Making Every Page Yours with Customizable Headers.
Just above the headers, unfold Legal Language and Disclaimers:
🧾 Payment Receipts: Invoice Language, Top of Statement and Bottom of Statement. Starts with Invoice Language.
⚡ Quick Statements: plus the Professional Services, Merchandise and Cash Advances Sections. Starts with none.
📄 Statements: plus the Payments and Outside Charges Sections and Statement Disclaimers. Starts with everything set up except Invoice Language.
Greyed out? Hover it to see why: it isn’t set up in the back office yet (Setting Your Funeral Home's Default Statement Header, Columns & Legal Language), Statement Disclaimers print only on the Statement, or a Statement’s Payments or Outside Charges Section isn’t itemized.
What Does Gather Remember for Next Time?
Each type opens the way you last printed it, kept for you on this device. Share a front-desk computer? Each director keeps their own setup.
✅ All three: the header, what Simple shows and the legal language.
✅ Quick Statement, also: Combined or Broken Out, expected payments and the amount due.
✅ Statement, also: Visual or Compact, each part, the fee line and the closing totals.
❌ Never: ticked rows, who the envelope is addressed to, and the Statement’s header details, equal columns and revisions. Those start from the case’s Statement.
Hover (or tap) the bookmark on Print Receipt for the full list. Until you print a Statement on a device, its parts and totals start the way your official Statement shows them. And View Payer Invoice never changes what’s remembered.
Other FAQs About Customizable Receipts:
Below are answers to other frequently asked questions about customizable receipts in Gather:
Where did the Statement Report button go?
It’s now Print Receipt, in the same spot. Choose Statement to print the full Statement.
Why don’t I see Print Quick Statement on a charge?
It’s only on charges added with Record a Charge. For a line on the Statement, use Print Receipt → Quick Statement → Broken Out.
Does a Payment Receipt show the payment date?
Yes! Payment rows on a Statement or Quick Statement show who paid and how, but not when.
Can I put two payments on one receipt?
A Payment Receipt covers one payment. For several, print a Quick Statement and tick them.
Does a pending payment count as paid?
Not yet. Quick Statements and Statements count it as expected until it settles, just like the Payments page balances do. You can still print its Payment Receipt, which reads Payment Pending. More in Pending Payments.
Why didn’t my legal language print?
It may not be ticked, so open Legal Language and Disclaimers and check. Greyed out? Hover it to see why.
Can I save it as a PDF, email it or print a whole batch?
Choose Save as PDF in your print window to keep a file or attach it to your own email. There’s no send button or batch printing, so it’s one case at a time.
Does printing a receipt change the official Statement or my books?
Nope. No charge, payment or balance moves, and the signed Statement stays exactly as it was.
Can I print a Quick Statement for the son, a mailed receipt for the daughter and an invoice for the insurance company, all before lunch?
Well, it depends when you eat lunch... just kidding! Of course you can. 😄
