Connect a DJI Mic Mini to the Mevo app over Bluetooth
Before you start
A DJI Mic Mini transmitter, charged. You do not need the receiver for a Bluetooth connection.
The phone or tablet you stream from, with the Mevo Multicam app installed and updated.
Your Mevo camera powered on and already connected to the app.
Ten quiet minutes in the chapel before the family arrives, so you can test.
Step 1: Pair the transmitter to your phone
The mic pairs in your device’s own Bluetooth settings, not inside the Mevo app.
Step 1. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone or tablet
Open Settings, then Bluetooth, and leave the screen open so you can see new devices appear.
Step 2. Power on the transmitter
Lift the transmitter out of the charging case, or press and hold its power button until the status light comes on.
Step 3. Press and hold the link button for two seconds
The link button is on the side of the transmitter. Hold it until the status light flashes blue and green, whatever color it was showing before. That flashing light means the mic is in Bluetooth pairing mode.
Step 4. Select DJI Mic Mini in the Bluetooth list
Tap it, then accept the pairing request and any permission prompt your device shows. When the transmitter’s status light turns solid blue, pairing is complete.
If the mic never appears in the list, turn your device’s Bluetooth off and back on, then hold the link button again. A transmitter that is still linked to its receiver will not advertise over Bluetooth.
Step 2: Choose the mic as your audio source in Mevo
Mevo Multicam does not detect the mic automatically. You have to point it at the paired input.
Step 5. Open the Mevo app and connect to your camera
Pair the mic first, then open Mevo. Launching the app before the mic is connected is the most common reason it does not show up as an option.
Step 6. Go to the audio settings for the live view
Tap the settings gear, then Audio. You will see a list of available inputs, which includes the camera’s built-in mic and your device’s mic.
Step 7. Select the DJI Mic Mini as the input
Because the mic is paired to the phone rather than the camera, it appears as the device or Bluetooth input rather than by name on some versions of the app. Choose that option and the camera mic will drop out of the mix.
Step 8. Watch the level meter while someone speaks
Clip the transmitter to a lapel about a hand’s width below the chin and have someone talk at normal volume. The meter should sit in the middle of its range and only touch the top on the loudest words.
Step 3: Record a short test before the service
Start a private recording, speak from the lectern for fifteen seconds, stop, and play it back on headphones. You are listening for three things: that the voice is on the recording at all, that it is not distorted, and that the lips line up with the sound.
Bluetooth adds a small delay. On most devices it is small enough that nobody notices, but it varies by phone. If the audio drifts noticeably behind the picture, plug the DJI receiver into your phone with the USB-C adapter instead. A wired receiver has no delay and is the safer choice for a service you only get one shot at.
If something is not working
