Overview

If you're having trouble connecting your Mevo Start camera while livestreaming, especially from a church or other facility with strict network security, this guide will walk you through the most common causes and solutions.

Common Cause: Network Firewalls and Captive Portals

Many facility networks (LDS meetinghouses are a frequent example) use firewalls or "captive portals" that can prevent your Mevo from connecting properly.

Why this happens: Some networks require every device to accept terms and conditions in a browser before getting internet access. Because the Mevo camera doesn't have a screen or browser, it can't accept these terms β€” so it never fully connects to the Wi-Fi. This prevents the camera and the Mevo app from communicating with each other.

  • If you suspect this is the issue, contact the facility's IT or network administrator and ask them to either whitelist your devices or open the ports listed below.

Required Ports

Share this section with the facility's network administrator if needed.

For camera-to-app communication (local network)

These ports allow your Mevo camera and the Mevo app on your iPad to sync video, audio, and controls:

  • TCP 38000

  • TCP 38001

  • UDP 61000–63000

For livestreaming (outbound to streaming server)

These ports allow your stream to reach the live platform:

  • TCP 1935 (RTMP/RTMPS)

  • TCP 80 (HTTP)

  • TCP 443 (HTTPS)

  • UDP 53 (DNS)

  • UDP 2088 (used by certain streaming services)

Workaround: Stream Directly from the iPad Using Streamlabs

If the camera still can't connect and you need to go live, you can bypass the Mevo camera entirely and stream from the iPad using the Streamlabs app.

Setup Steps

  1. Download Streamlabs from the App Store.

  2. Open the app and tap Skip through the intro screens.

  3. Allow all permissions when prompted (camera, microphone, etc.).

  4. Tap the chat icon in the bottom-left corner so it turns black (this disables chat).

  5. Tap the menu icon (two lines) in the top-left corner, then select Account Settings.

  6. Choose Custom RTMP server β†’ Set up, then enter the following:

    • Name: FuneralHomeTab-A (name matching your funeral home)

    • URL: Copy and paste the RTMP URL from the Mevo app

      • If not available, contact Gather support for this info

    • Stream Key: Copy and paste the Stream Key from your Intercom message

      • If not available, contact Gather support for this info

  7. Tap Save, then hit the back arrow.

  8. If time allows, run a test stream by going live and confirm it appears in Gather.

Important

  • Position the iPad in portrait mode for the entire stream.
