Can I accept CareCredit Payments with Gather?

CareCredit is a healthcare financing credit card issued by Synchrony Bank. It allows families to pay for services and repay the balance over time, sometimes with promotional financing options depending on the provider and the terms of the account.

This article explains how CareCredit works with Gather and what to expect if your funeral home wants to offer it as a payment option.


Does Gather support CareCredit payments?

Gather processes online payments using Stripe, which supports major card networks such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

The standard CareCredit card does not run on these networks and therefore cannot be accepted natively in Gather. Instead, CareCredit operates through a separate provider network managed by Synchrony.

However, some families may have a CareCredit Rewards Mastercard. Because this card runs on the Mastercard network, it may work through Gather just like a normal credit card. In those cases, the transaction will appear as a standard Mastercard payment.


Other ways families may use CareCredit

Even though Gather does not process CareCredit directly, families may still be able to use their CareCredit account to help pay for services.

Examples may include:

  • Paying with another card and using a CareCredit cash advance to cover the expense

  • Using CareCredit β€œPay My Provider”, a feature that may allow CareCredit to send payment to the provider

    • With this method, the family would request to use Pay My Provider with CareCredit and your funeral home would receive payment directly from the CareCredit company

Accepting Standard CareCredit Cards Outside of Gather

If your funeral home wants to accept the standard CareCredit card using traditional credit card processing, you will need to enroll directly with CareCredit (Synchrony) as a provider.

Once enrolled, you can process CareCredit payments through Synchrony's system, such as:

  • The CareCredit provider portal

  • A CareCredit payment terminal

  • Another CareCredit-supported payment workflow

These payments are processed outside of Gather.

Please note that Gather is not available to support or troubleshoot CareCredit payments that are processed outside of Gather. If you need assistance with those transactions, you will need to contact CareCredit or Synchrony directly.

When a payment is processed through this method, you can still track it in Gather for your records.

Typically, funeral homes will:

  1. Process the payment through CareCredit or Synchrony

  2. Mark the contract as paid in Gather

  3. Optionally record the payer or payment details in Gather for documentation

This allows you to keep your case records accurate even though the payment itself was processed outside of Gather.
